MEETING OUR ATHLETES’ NEEDS
The need for an Olympic Sports Village at the Great Park is overwhelming:
- Practice Time – insufficient space and time force club organizations to hold practice time at inconvenient locations.
- Recreation Space – a lack of facilities disallow young athletes opportunities for recreation and wear down existing soccer and baseball fields.
- Tournament Sights – without adequate fields and gymnasium space for tournaments, parents are forced to drive hundreds of miles to have their children participate in local and regional events.
Local Sports Associations are too large to serve children with additional space and resources:
- Special Olympics, Largest Sports Organization in the World
- YMCA, largest not-for-profit community service organization in the United States (20.1 million served in over 10,000 different communities)
- 200,000 AYSO Soccer Players
- Saddleback Volleyball Club – largest youth volleyball association in the United States
